Sneaky photography and a finished essay!

Hello and good day to you all,

This is just a little bit of an update on what's been going on in my studio space and my head for the last few weeks. I thought I'd show you all some photographs I took one evening in my house - I decided to try and tackle the issue of what context my figurines should be shown in. After my seminar I've felt a little stumped and overwhelmed by how many ideas I've been trying to push into my work, obviously it's not a great idea to try and over load the work because in the end nothing came across to the viewer very clearly!

So I borrowed an external flash for my DSLR and somehow, without my Grandparents noticing, I placed a few of my creations in with their belongings and snapped away, trying to play with the direction of the light and creating a bit of drama.

Although I am content with the lighting, I still don't feel these objects are in their 'Place'. I think they need to be in an altogether more lavish, expensively decorated interior, somewhere they can present a tension between values of taste and a power struggle in the hierarchy of value that exists with ceramics and collectable items.
So my plan is to try and get in contact with places such as the Geffrye Museum or perhaps some stately homes to get permission to document my work in their settings.

In other news, I've been pretty busy writing and editing this year's assessment text - I can confirm it is now COMPLETE and I will be burdened with slightly less when I hand it in tomorrow. I think I'll post it on here some time in the near future so you can all have a read, I decided to discuss the uses of interiors and objects in relation to people and heightened emotional states, which covers my interests and influences in my art practice over this academic year.

Next on my agenda is to put together my slide show of images for the assessed presentation, a combination of my work and context with other artist's work and influences. The text and presentation go hand in hand so it shouldn't be too difficult to discuss now that I have my influences written in a coherent order!

So that's all for now :)

xx
