The first day back at school after a holiday is always a mixed bag of emotions, part of you cannot wait to see your friends and catch up on news, and the other part just doesn't want to have to face the reality of getting back to work.
For me, I found today a massive whack in the face from reality. It's crunch time, the final full term before my degree show (which is in May). So after a good old natter with my friends - some of which have returned from exchange studies - I knuckled down and started making some work!
My aim with my painting at the moment is to find the right consistency and gloss, I want visible brush marks and a luscious, glossy texture. Something that makes the actual painting a visual pleasure that extends beyond the subject matter.
Here's a couple of (terrible quality) photos that I snapped today of two canvases experimenting with oils and varnish mediums in my paints.
I also collected some pieces of sculpture that I had fired just before the Christmas holidays...
My plan for these is to go and buy some glazes and try out several colour combinations so they are tonal and glossy after a second firing. Then I can begin to play with methods of display, it could well be that they are brought together with the paintings to create something quite visually overwhelming and dramatic.
Next week, myself and all the other final year students are curating our works together over in Slade's Woburn Square project space for a big critique. It will be good to get a glimpse at what our graduating exhibition could look like.
I'll make sure I take plenty of photos and write up a post about how it goes. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your week!
Xx
