It's Chriiiiiistmaaaaaassss...
Evening all,
Yesterday was the last day of term at Slade *boo*, but I am looking forward to Christmas at home with my family *yay*.
I thought I'd do a mini update on my recent work, I realised it's been quite a while since I posted some images of my art, and it's been through quite a transition recently!
So my focus has turned to the 'sexual body', and I still have a long way to go in terms of understanding what I want the work to say to the viewer.
There are currently two threads of thought that link together, these lay in my sculptures and my paintings. I'm currently developing my sculptures as objects that explore the boundary between visual pleasure and repulsion. They also serve as observers to the paintings, and I want them to have a dramatic focus so that the paintings almost become backdrops.
I've really enjoyed painting this term, I've found a real love for using it's fluidity and lusciousness. The paintings very much tackle my confusion in my relationship with the nude subjects. All of them are drawn and painted from imagination so they explore fantasy and desires. They ask the question 'is the artist interested in having sex with these bodies?' However, I also think they touch on my feminist beliefs and passion for equality and elimination of stereotypes in gender and sexuality politics.
I am also currently putting together my application for the Post-Graduate Diploma course at the Royal Academy, nothing like a little stress over writing a personal statement to keep me on my toes!
It's been a busy, frustrating and life-affirming term to be honest. I feel like I've grown into my own person and the beginnings of a real practising artist. I'm excited to see what happens next term, where the degree show will be at the forefront of my mind!
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
Xx

Thank you so much 😊 I'm definitely on a journey with my work at the moment and enjoying the possibilities of where it could take me.
