My first attempt at making nipple tassels ahead of Monday's burlesque class!
1. I cut out circles! The card/craft foam circles (The blue ones in the pic above) should be big enough to cover your nipple as these will be the final size. Measure and cut out a pie slice so the sides can be joined into a slight cone - again, check they cover your whole nipple area!
2. I cut out slightly smaller circles of black leatherette, these will go on the inside of the nipple tassels, nice and soft against my skin! Measure and cut out pie slices so when the sides are joined the fit snugly into the card/craft foam cones.
3. I cut out larger circles of the material I will cover the outside of the main cones with, my choice this time is a lush green velvet!
4. I made the tassels! I did this by cutting a section of fringing and rolling it up, then stitching the roll in place with a couple of tassels secured above the roll.
5. Next I carefully stitched the card/craft foam cones together, then did the same to the leatherette cones, ensuring the 'good' side was inverted as this will be the side touching my skin.
6. Next I covered my card/craft foam cones with a little glue then gently smoothed my fabric circles over them. I then stitched the fabric, pleating the excess as I went around.
7. Then it was time to attach the tassels! I made small holes in the centre of the cones and gently used a needle to thread the two fringe pieces through (front to back). I tied the fringe pieces in a double knot inside the back of the cone and secured the fringe ends with a couple of stitches into the pleated fabric.
8. Then apply some glue to the outside (the 'bad' side) of the leatherette cones and gently press them into the fabric covered cones.
9. Carefully stitch the edges of the leatherette to the pleated fabric to hold in place.
10. Let your tassels dry then attach with a little tit tape and twirl away!! (You can also trim your tassels to the desired length)
